Inmate Faking Illness Tries to Escape at Hospital
A county jail inmate who tried to escape from custody by faking a seizure at Torrance Municipal Court was caught when she tried to run away from a hospital where she was to be examined, authorities said Wednesday.
Rochele Leeder, 29, feigned the attack while in a holding cell at the courthouse about 1 p.m. Tuesday while she was waiting to be arraigned on charges of methamphetamine possession, said Sheriff’s Deputy Angie Prewitt.
Leeder was taken by ambulance to Little Company of Mary Hospital for treatment and, while handcuffed to the emergency room gurney, she slipped her cuffs and ran out of the hospital.
Prewitt said a deputy chased her into the hospital parking lot where she was taken into custody without incident. Prewitt said Leeder was arraigned Wednesday.
