Millions Risk Food Shortages in Crisis

Millions of poor Indonesians are in danger of acute food shortages because of drought and a deepening economic crisis, the United Nations said. The economic crisis has prompted protests and riots. In its report, the U.N. said 7.5 million people “risk experiencing food insecurity until early next year.” Meanwhile, at a World Bank meeting, donor nations and major aid groups agreed to support a humanitarian relief program to help Indonesians. The World Bank has estimated that the nation would need $1.5 billion to $3 billion in aid.
