Car Flips After Tire Blows; Woman Killed, Baby Hurt
SANTA ANA — A woman was killed and an 8-month-old baby injured Monday when a tire blew out and the car overturned on an embankment, officials said.
Cuc Kim Dao, 23, of Santa Ana was driving south on the Santa Ana Freeway, just south of the 17th Street exit, when her left rear tire failed, said Officer Bruce Mauldin of the California Highway Patrol.
Passengers Huong Ngoc Do, 26, and Emily Tran, eight months, both of Oceanside, were thrown from the car when it overturned. Do, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries, Mauldin said.
Dao, who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured, Mauldin said.
The baby was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she was in stable condition Monday night.
