TBS Goes to the Movies: Cable’s TBS is getting into the television movie business with four films: a disaster thriller, “Hurricane: Force Five”; a cyber thriller, “Reaper”; an action-adventure, “Play to Win”; and the factual drama “Code of Silence.” All are in development and scheduled to air next year. TBS plans to produce four to six new movies each year.

Nominations Announced: “Soul Food” is the front-runner in the Black Film Awards, which honors achievements in African American-themed films. The comedy-drama received six nominations for best film, director (George Tillman Jr.), actor (Michael Beach), actress (Vanessa L. Williams and Vivica A. Fox) and soundtrack. Also nominated for best film were “Hoodlum,” “Eve’s Bayou,” “Rosewood” and “Love Jones.” The announcement of the nominations was made by UniWorld Entertainment, the Black Filmmaker Foundation and HBO, presenters of the second annual Acapulco Black Film Festival, where the awards ceremony will be held July 17.

No More Mr. Nice Guy: Tony Danza sheds his wholesome “Who’s the Boss?” image in the new NC-17-rated movie “Glam,” set to open May 5 at West Hollywood’s Laemmle Sunset 5. Described as a dark portrait of Hollywood, the movie features Danza in the role of an evil Hollywood producer who, according to Danza, “beats up everybody.” The film was directed by Josh Evans, the son of Ali MacGraw, and producer Robert Evans.

Pioneering Filmmaker: L.A. resident Elfi von Dassanowsky, who founded Austria’s Belvedere Films in 1946, is the recipient of the Austrian Film Archive’s Medal of Honor for her international work as a female film pioneer and for being an instrumental figure in postwar German-language films. Von Dassanowsky will receive her award in Vienna in June.

Brooks in a Box: Garth Brooks’ first boxed set, “The Limited Series,” will hit stores May 5. The collection will include the country singer’s first six multi-platinum studio releases, as well as a new bonus track. The series, which features 66 cuts and a photo booklet, will be limited to 2 million boxed sets worldwide.

No Smoking Zone: A 60-second anti-smoking public-service announcement will be shown before each concert during Boyz II Men’s upcoming tour. Second-hand smoke has affected the throats of the popular singing group and even led it to cancel shows in Japan three years ago. Tickets for Boyz II Men go on sale today for the group’s May 17 engagement at the Great Western Forum and May 19 concert at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

Side by Side: Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley, who played Siamese twins in the now-closed Broadway musical “Side Show,” will be considered together for a Tony nomination. The Tony administration committee approved the request of the musical’s producers on Thursday to consider the two as a single candidate in the best actress in a musical category. Nominations will be announced May 4 with the awards ceremony set for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall.

“Full Gallop,” the one-woman show at the Coronet Theatre starring Brenda Vaccaro as fashion maven Diana Vreeland, will close early, on April 19. . . “Reprise!
