Officials to Present Bus Agency Findings

City officials looking into establishing a semiprivate bus agency for the San Fernando Valley will present their findings and seek public input Wednesday.

Consultants for the city Department of Transportation have been examining the possibility of a semiautonomous agency managing bus lines in the Valley. Supporters of the concept say a Valley agency could save money and reduce fares by privatizing the management and operation of lines now run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Transit officials are expected Wednesday to discuss the results of their research and the consultants’ findings.

Department of Transportation staff and appointees to a citizens advisory committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave.

If the advisory committee backs the idea, the city is expected to prepare an application to formally create the Valley agency.

Consultants for the MTA also are studying the financial and legal impact of establishing such an agency.
