Kile Is Rocked in Home Debut
DENVER — Barry Larkin’s first hit of the season highlighted an eight-run seventh inning, and the Cincinnati Reds ended a four-game losing streak by roughing up Darryl Kile and the Colorado Rockies, 18-7, Friday night.
The Rockies lost their sixth in a row despite getting 18 hits.
Bret Boone and Chris Stynes each had four hits, including a home run. Eduardo Perez homered and drove in four runs for the Reds, who had 17 hits.
Cincinnati had hit .180 without a home run during its losing streak.
Larkin, hampered by a neck problem, had been hitless in 10 at-bats this season before his two-run double put the Reds ahead, 5-4, in the seventh. Eddie Taubensee followed with an RBI single that chased Kile (1-2).
Kile made his debut at Coors Field after signing with the Rockies as a free agent. He had a 0.68 earned-run average in two games at Denver while pitching for Houston, but did not fare well this time.
Kile lasted five hitters into the seventh inning and left without retiring any of them. He gave up eight runs and nine hits and four walks.
After Kile left, Willie Greene hit a two-run double off Mike Munoz and Boone added an RBI single as the Reds took an 11-4 lead.
Perez homered in the eighth and Taubensee’s double keyed a four-run ninth.
Ricardo Jordan (1-0) got one out for the victory.
