Cal State Student Pleads Guilty in Bribe Try
A Cal State Fullerton student pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to bribe a university basketball player, the district attorney’s office said.
Under an agreement offered by Municipal Judge W. Michael Hayes in Fullerton, the student, Jack Oh, 21, of La Verne faces a maximum of nine months in prison and five years’ probation when he is sentenced June 5. He also will enter a treatment program for gambling addicts and perform community service.
Without the agreement, he could have been sentenced to three years in prison.
“This was a fair and equitable end,” Deputy Dist. Atty. John Anderson said.
Oh was arrested Feb. 23 after Fullerton police recorded a conversation in which Oh offered Corey Sanders of the Cal State Fullerton basketball team $1,000 if the Titans lost by more than the 10-point spread in a Feb. 19 game.
