NBA Nicks Lakers
NEW YORK — Nick Van Exel of the Lakers and San Antonio’s Monty Williams were suspended without pay for two games each by the NBA on Tuesday for fighting.
With 4:02 left in the fourth quarter of the Spurs-Lakers game Monday night, Van Exel and Williams started a fight that spilled into the front row of seats.
Van Exel, who also made an obscene gesture, was fined $10,000. Williams was fined $5,000.
Van Exel was to miss the Lakers’ games against Dallas on Tuesday and Friday nights. Williams will sit out the Spurs’ games at Vancouver on Thursday and Seattle on Friday.
The Lakers’ Shaquille O’Neal and San Antonio’s Reggie Geary also were fined $5,000 each for joining the fight.
The Spurs’ Perdue was fined $5,000 for throwing Laker point guard Derek Fisher to the floor earlier in the fourth quarter.
