Young Readies for NBA With All-Star Game
Some of the top high school basketball players in the country, including NBA-bound Korleone Young, will take part in the Eddie Jones All-Star Classic at 7:30 tonight at the Great Western Forum.
The game matches a team of West Coast players against a team of players from the rest of the nation.
Young, a 6-foot-8 forward from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., will play for a U.S. team that also includes 6-7 JaRon Rush of Pembroke Academy in Kansas City, Mo., and 6-10 Jerome Moiso of Milford Academy in Milford, Conn., who have signed with UCLA. USC-bound Sam Clancy Jr., a 6-7 forward from St. Edward High in Lakewood, Ohio, is also on the team.
The West Coast team features 6-8 Matt Barnes of Fair Oaks Del Campo, who has signed with UCLA, and Westchester’s 6-8 David Bluthenthal, the City Section player of the year who has signed with USC.
Other local players on the West team include Times’ player of the year Tayshaun Prince of Compton Dominguez, who has signed with Kentucky, Long Beach Poly’s Ricky Anderson (Arizona), Westchester’s Tony Bland (Syracuse) and Compton’s David Hamilton (Auburn).
Former Bellflower St. John Bosco standout Schea Cotton (North Carolina State), who is attending St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, Conn., will play for the West team.
USC-bound guard Brandon Granville of Westchester is among other top seniors who will participate in a Southern California all-star game at 5:30.
