Historic Home May Be Moved to Heritage Court
The City Council has decided to keep a plot of land in the historic area of Dominguez Park as open space until a decision is made on what to do with a historic Arts and Crafts home that the Redondo Beach Historical Society would like to move to the location.
The city was planning to build a gazebo on the land in Heritage Court, but members of the Historical Society argued that the space was reserved for a third historic home to be restored. Two other residences are already on display there.
The Redondo Beach Unified School District purchased the old Arts and Crafts home on El Redondo to make room for additional parking, and donated the home to the Historical Society last month. The district has given the Historical Society until June 1 to move the structure.
Mayor Greg Hill said the City Council has not made a decision on the issue because several questions still need to be answered about the cost. He said the council has canceled plans to build the gazebo to keep the space available until a decision is made.
