Kamps Wins Two Events for Foothill
Kristen Kamps won two individual events to help Foothill edge host Canyon, 87 1/2-82 1/2 in Century League girls’ swimming Wednesday.
Kamps won the 200 (2 minutes 1.80 seconds) and 500 freestyles (5:22.5) and swam the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay, which Foothill won in 3:52.40.
Canyon’s Darby Schlaht won the 200 individual medley (2:17.2) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.7), and teammate Lauren Volcan took the 50 (26.0) and 100 freestyles (57.1).
In another league meet:
No. 7 Villa Park 102, El Modena 64--Maureen Dunn won the 200 freestyle (2:03.27) and 500 freestyle (5:38.96) for visiting Villa Park (8-1, 4-0).
Ashley Lowden won the 200 individual medley (2:23.02) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.97) for El Modena (1-3 in league).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 107, Sunny Hills 79--Annette Vayo of Troy won the 50 freestyle (24.70) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.19).
In Century League boys’ swimming:
No. 5 Villa Park 125, El Modena 45--Charlie Fisher won the 50 freestyle (24.13) and the 100 backstroke (58.01) for Villa Park. The Spartans are 8-1, 4-0 in league.
El Modena’s Tojo Tsunjino won the 200 freestyle in a county-best time of 1:43.87. Tsunjino also won the 500 freestyle in 5:17.57.
No. 6 Foothill 131, Canyon 39--Chris Myer was the highlight for host Canyon, winning the 200 individual medley (2:07.4) and 500 freestyle (4:55.1).
In Pacific Coast League golf:
No. 2 University 188, Laguna Beach 220--Branden Fella shot a one-under-par 35 in a victory for University at Rancho San Joaquin. Ron Won shot 36 for the Trojans (12-2, 7-0).
In nonleague golf:
Palm Desert 357, No. 3 Santa Margarita 374--John McKeating shot a three-under 33 at Coto de Caza’s north course for Palm Desert (15-0). Jimmy Dunn also shot 33 for Santa Margarita (8-4).
In the Golden West League
No. 1 Servite 189, Tustin 235--Will Luciano finished with a one-under 35 in a victory for host Servite at Los Coyotes. Nico Bollini and Dave Lauder each shot 37 for the Friars (9-2, 3-0).
Tustin dropped to 13-3, 2-1 in league.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Rosary 217, Esperanza 256--Maggie Barnett broke her nine-hole school record with a two-over 35 for Rosary (6-0) at Fullerton.
In Golden West League softball:
Ocean View 2, Tustin 1--Daniella Garcia had two hits, two stolen bases, one RBI and scored the game-winning run in the seventh for visiting Ocean View (12-8, 2-1).
Westminster 6, Santa Ana 5--Lacy Hauxhurst had two home runs for Westminster (7-6, 2-0).
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 6, Newport Harbor 0--Susan Churchwell pitched her second no-hitter, walking three and striking out 12 for visiting El Toro (15-8, 2-1). Catcher Julie Skidmore had two doubles and four RBI for the Chargers.
In the South Coast League:
No. 1 Mater Dei 2, Dana Hills 0--Tia Bollinger had eight strikeouts in the one-hitter. Teammate Robin Walker had a RBI single in the sixth inning. Mater Dei is 14-2, 3-0.
San Clemente 1, Mission Viejo 0 (8 innings)--Jill Haskell’s bases-loaded single scored Nikki Shanafelt in the bottom of the eighth inning for San Clemente (9-8-1, 2-1). Shanafelt pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Tritons.
