La Canada’s Moore Signs With Loyola Marymount

Matt Moore, the career scoring leader in boys’ basketball at La Canada High, on Thursday signed to play at Loyola Marymount, Spartan Coach Tom Hofman said.

Moore, a 6-foot-7 center, is a two-time Rio Hondo League most valuable player and All-Southern Section selection, and last season was picked to the All-State Division III team.

He scored 1,670 points for the Spartans and holds the school record with 751 points in a season and 51 points in a game.

BASEBALL

Dane Sardinha, a freshman catcher for Pepperdine, has been invited to USA Baseball’s national team summer training camp.

Approximately 40 collegiate players will be invited to the camp, and 22 will make the national team, which begins competition June 6 and will play 33 games in preparation for a possible berth in the International Baseball Association XXXIII World Championships, July 21-Aug. 2 in Italy.

The Pierce-College of the Canyons baseball game Saturday will be played at Canyons starting at 1 p.m. The game had been scheduled at Pierce.

HONORS

Eighteen Cal State Northridge athletes, including 17 track and field athletes, were recently selected to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the winter season.

Members of the men’s track team who competed during the indoor season recognized for academic performance were freshmen Damon Clinkscales and Anthony Colson; sophomore Nick Hamlin; junior John Greene; and seniors Javier Ramirez and Oswaldo Servin.

Members of the women’s track team who were honored are seniors Margo Hammerstram, Amy Myers, Jennifer Overlock and Jamie Whitmore; junior Gudrun Skuladottir; sophomores Cheree Hicks, Erin Nichols and Desiree Woodman; and freshmen Ragean Hill, Jennifer Capehart and Maggie O’Malley.

Neda Millic, a member of the Northridge women’s basketball team, also was recognized.

Those selected to the all-academic team must have maintained at least a 3.20 grade-point average for their entire collegiate career or for the preceding academic year, participated in at least half of the team’s competitions, and transfer students or freshmen must complete at least one semester at their current school.

VOLLEYBALL

Westlake High girls’ volleyball player Erika Denison has signed a letter of intent with the University of Houston.

SOFTBALL

Montclair Prep’s softball team is seeking opponents. School officials said the team, which is 5-3 playing a freelance schedule, needs to play 16 games for playoff consideration. The team has seven games remaining on the schedule.
