Rorem Sets O.C. Record in Pole Vault
Marina’s Katie Rorem set a county record in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet 1 inch during a Sunset League girls’ track and field meet won by visiting Esperanza, 98-38, Thursday.
Erica Hoernig of Foothill set the previous best mark of 12 feet 3/4 inches in 1996.
In the Century League:
No. 9 El Modena 114, Villa Park 17--Sophomore Julia Fukuhara won the 100 (12.6), 200 (26.5), long jump (15-4) and was on the winning 400-meter relay team for El Modena (6-0, 4-0).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 74, Tustin 58--Aileen Sabio won the 200 with a school record time of 26.2 as Rosary clinched a share of the dual meet title for the second consecutive season. Sabio also won the 100 in 12.8.
In the Sea View League:
No. 2 Santa Margarita 74, No. 7 Woodbridge 62--Meryl Stone of Woodbridge was defeated in the 100 meters for the first time this season after Santa Margarita’s Megan Atkinson ran a 12.3 to win the event. Atkinson also won the 200 in 25.2. In the 3,200 meters, Dani Rope (11:38.9) of Santa Margarita (4-0 in league) won the event over teammate Lori Mann and Mary Moore of Woodbridge (2-2).
In the South Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 68, Mater Dei 68--Darnesha Griffith took first in the triple jump with a leap of 38-10, the best mark in the county. Trabuco Hills (2-1-1, 2-1-1) had its season-best time of 4:16.6 to win the 1,600 relay and tie the final score.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 66, Laguna Beach 59--Estancia overcame a one-point deficit by winning the 1,600 relay after Laguna Beach was disqualified for a late hand-off. Laguna Beach led by seven going into the 3,200, but Estancia took first, second and third place to come within one point.
In South Coast League boys’ track and field:
No. 1 Mission Viejo 77, No. 5 Dana Hills 59--Mark Gleason won the 800 (2:00), 1,600 (4:32) and 3,200 (10:13) to pace Mission Viejo (7-0, 6-0). James Brown won the 110 hurdles (14.6) and 300 hurdles (41.2) for Dana Hills (5-1, 3-1).&
Trabuco Hills 75, Mater Dei 61--Mater Dei’s Mike McNair won the 100 in 10.5 seconds and the 200 in 21.0, which are the best times in the county.
In the Sunset League:
No. 8 Esperanza 72, Marina 59--Bobby Sparks produced the county’s best mark in the pole vault this season after clearing 15-2 for Esperanza (3-1 in league). In the shotput, Travis Pendleton threw the second-farthest distance this season (173-5).
