The parent company of NewGen Imaging Systems, the Costa Mesa maker of color and black-and-white printers, said Wednesday it will move NewGen’s Orange County plant, with 60 employees, to its corporate headquarters in San Diego.

The move is part of an ongoing corporate shift to consolidate its manufacturing and streamline its product line, said Bruce Ahern, a spokesman for Imaging Technologies Corp., the parent company of NewGen.

NewGen will relocate most of its employees on July 1. Some layoffs are expected, said a spokesman at Imaging Technologies, who declined to say how many positions will be cut.

“Our lease in Costa Mesa expires and the timing to make this move seemed right,” Ahern said.
