Fullerton Turns Back Loyola Marymount
Cal State Fullerton scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off Loyola Marymount, 12-11, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Loyola Marymount.
The Titans have won 11 straight, the third-longest streak in the nation this season.
Kirk Saarloos and Adam Johnson combined for three scoreless innings to close out the game for Fullerton. Johnson has six saves.
Greg Jacobs had three hits and three RBIs for the Titans (37-12). Teammate Kevin Duck also had three hits.
Matt Riordan and Ryan Beaver each had four hits for Loyola Marymount (28-19-1).
The Titans scored six unearned runs in the second inning to take an 8-3 lead. Loyola Marymount came back and took a 11-9 lead with a four-run sixth inning.
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 6, Cal Lutheran 5--Josh Fallon hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth for Chapman (26-10). Cal Lutheran is 24-10.
The victory improves Chapman’s chances of making it to the NCAA Division III west regional.
In nonconference softball:
Chapman 4-11, Cal Lutheran 0-10 (2nd game, 9)--Jessamine Maiben’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth won the second game for Chapman (27-19). Freshman Catie Lacy pitched a three-hit shutout in the first game for Chapman.
