Ex-Canuck, King Coach Laycoe Dies

VANCOUVER, Canada — Hal Laycoe, the first coach of the Vancouver Canucks, died Tuesday night in a hospital after a brief illness. He was 75.
Laycoe, who also played in the NHL, coached the Canucks for two seasons beginning in 1970-71 when they joined the NHL. He coached the Kings for the 1969-70 season.
Laycoe played from 1945 to 1956 for Montreal, the New York Rangers and Boston, and he was with the New York Islanders’ organization for three of their Stanley Cup triumphs.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, a daughter and two sons.
