U.S. Warns Against Travel to Albania
WASHINGTON — All except essential workers at the U.S. Embassy in Albania have been ordered to leave and the State Department warned Americans not to travel in the east European country.
The department said in a statement Friday that Albania could be among the targets of a terrorist attack. The U.S. Embassy in Tirana will provide only emergency services, the announcement said.
The department cited “recent declarations by Islamic extremists against the United States and its citizens.” Embassy workers in “nonemergency” jobs were ordered to depart, as were dependents.
