Man Injured in Fall Remains in a Coma
A 21-year-old man who fell from a second-story hotel window remained unconscious and in critical condition Tuesday, hospital officials said.
Gary Shawgo was apparently drinking when he fell about 5 p.m. Monday from the window at the Mission Hotel on Oak Street, police said.
His family, whom he lived with at the hotel, kept vigil at Ventura County Medical Center where Shawgo remains in a coma. Doctors have placed Shawgo on a 72-hour watch for a brain hemorrhage.
Witnesses told police that Shawgo was hanging out of the window and “monkeying around,” but family members contend that was not the case.
“A lot of people are upset about it, because he wasn’t clowning around or anything,” Gary Shawgo Sr. said of his son. “I pray just about every minute of the day that he gets well. That’s all I can do at this point.”
