President Clinton
When President Clinton arrives in Moscow, he will find the same economic mess that old apparatchik Viktor S. Chernomyrdin has been unable to resolve for the last five years.
The U.S. and the World Bank helped Russia with loans to improve and resolve its financial problems. The only “thanks” the United States has received from Russia: not helping resolve the Iraq problem, not helping combat global terrorism, anger over U.S. raids on Afghanistan and Sudan and Russia’s stand against NATO.
It is time that President Clinton tells Boris Yeltsin in a serious talk to start paying back the U.S. by being more cooperative in world needs.

How refreshing it is to find in your news analysis “Finding Little Passion for Lewinsky Affair” (Aug. 25) that the American voters are displaying common sense and fair judgment in their assessment of Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky in contrast to the “nation’s political elite.”
This may be due to the public’s interest in maintaining the excellent job performance of our president along with the public’s concern that continued attacks harm our nation. The media, politicians and pundits, by contrast, have their own personal and self-serving agendas. Politicians and pundits seem to be responding to hurt feelings and political gain rather than serving the well-being of our country.
Perhaps the nation’s political elite should stop their attacks and listen to the public, because we have stopped listening to them.

Why is everyone making such a big deal about sex and Clinton’s personal actions? President Clinton made his bed. We don’t care what went on in the White House or in his bedroom. The issue is he lied under oath; and that is a crime and an obstruction to the Paula Jones case. If you or I lied, we would be sent to prison or pay a hefty fine. Clinton brought this on himself.
What about those who committed the same crime? Oh, I’m sorry, it won’t happen again. As a person who runs this great country, he has to be treated as every American, or we won’t have a country any more.

Will Clinton readdress the Monica mess from the X-rated oval office? Will he speak again from the PG-rated map room? Will he discuss it while delivering a family values speech or perhaps when he is lecturing teenagers on the subjects of drugs, smoking, drinking and unsafe sex?
Do I sound bitter? You bet! He invaded my privacy when he purloined my FBI file and I find his intrusion into my personal life beneath contempt!

When all the dust clears, Clinton’s legacy will be that he opened the doors to frank and open discussions about sex, something long overdue in this country and something for which our children will be eternally grateful.
