Richard Harkness Stover died in a Ventura hospital Saturday. He was 89.
Stover was born March 6, 1909, in Ventura. He married Virginia Nunan on Aug. 1, 1937, in Ventura. She preceded him in death in 1978.
Stover was in banking for 45 years, retiring from Security Pacific National Bank. As a youth, he played baseball for a semiprofessional team in Ventura and once participated in an exhibition game against Babe Ruth.
He was a member of San Buenaventura Masonic Lodge No. 214, the Retired Professional & Businessmen’s Assn. of Ventura and the Lawn Bowling Assn. of Ventura County.
Stover enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis R. Stover of Boise, Idaho, and James C. Stover of Bountiful, Utah; a sister, Virginia Van Every of Ventura, and six grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of his life from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at his home in Ventura.
There will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Stover’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
