Murdoch Does Cameo for ‘Simpsons’ Episode
An Australian accent is coming to “The Simpsons.”
Rupert Murdoch is lending his voice to the series for an animated cameo in which the mogul plays himself in an episode that will air after the Super Bowl on Jan. 31 on Murdoch’s Fox TV network.
Murdoch recently spent half an hour in a recording studio taping his lines for a segment in which Homer Simpson and his friends accidentally sneak into Murdoch’s sky box at the Super Bowl and make mischief by putting their hands in the onion dip.
Murdoch suddenly walks in on the group and orders security guards to haul them away.
Murdoch is an unabashed fan of “The Simpsons.” The prime-time animated series debuted on Fox in 1986 and served as one of the cornerstone programs in helping him build his network.
Executive producer Mike Scully, who directed the segment, said Murdoch enthusiastically played the role.
“He was all for it and was a good sport about it. He thought it was funny,” Scully said.
As for Scully himself: “I was nervous directing him.”
