Police Seek Gunman Who Killed 2 Men
HYDE PARK — A lone gunman who shot and killed two men outside a home on 10th Avenue was being sought by police Thursday.
LAPD Lt. John Dunkin of South Bureau Homicide said that Benson Harris, 42, and Derrick Bowie, 33, were mortally wounded about 10 a.m. Wednesday as they stood in the 6000 block of 10th Avenue. The shootings were believed to be gang-related, police said.
“The suspect walked up to [the victims at] a very close range and shot both of them,” Dunkin said.
Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, and Bowie died at a nearby hospital, Dunkin said.
Dunkin said the unidentified man ran away from the scene. The shootings remained under investigation, police said.
