Old Series and Game Shows Now Sport a Spanish Accent

Because Sony and Liberty Media’s purchase of Telemundo didn’t become official until August--just weeks before the start of the new fall season--the network’s inaugural lineup is filled with thinly disguised remakes of old Sony properties and low-cost studio shows. Telemundo executives nonetheless hope its nine “original” new shows will mark the network as an alternative to traditional Spanish-language programming.

Reyes y Rey--A “buddy” police drama that was intended to be mirrored after ABC’s old “Starsky and Hutch,” this one-hour show has taken on a life of its own since its November debut. Filmed in Tijuana, it airs Mondays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.

Solo en America--A half-hour comedy taped in Burbank and based on the ‘70s series “One Day at a Time.” Airs Tuesdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m.

Mira Que TVO--A half-hour “Candid Camera” clone based in Miami. Airs Tuesdays and Sundays at 7 p.m.

Operacion Rescate--A half-hour drama filmed in Los Angeles with story lines that would be recognizable to viewers of the English-language drama “Rescue 911.” Airs Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.

AXN--An hourlong show based in Miami that shows heart-stopping film clips of natural disasters, emergency rescues, daredevil maneuvers and Hollywood stunts gone awry. Airs Saturdays at 7 p.m.

Una Familia Con Angel--Filmed in Mexico City, this half-hour comedy is similar to “Who’s the Boss?” Airs Fridays at 7 and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.

Buscando Pareja--A slightly updated version of “The Dating Game,” this half-hour game show is produced in Los Angeles. Airs weekdays at 4 p.m.

Los Recien Casados--A half-hour takeoff of “The Newlywed Game,” this program is taped in Los Angeles. Airs weekdays at 4:30 p.m.

Suenos de Fama--An hourlong variety and talent show filmed in Miami. Airs Sundays at 3 p.m.
