AGE: 52
HOME: Chatsworth
POSITION: President of Valley College

LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Full-time enrollment at the two-year community college has risen from 4,000 to about 5,600 under Wieder’s leadership. She also has overseen a state-funded expansion of the college’s academic programs, including the upgrading of a computer lab with about 100 new computers.

GOALS FOR 1999: Wieder is reaching out to major studios to raise matching funds for a donation of $500,000 for the college’s media arts program. She is also working to expand the school’s job-training programs, which have placed 250 former welfare recipients and other unemployed people in positions with Burbank Aeronautical Corp. About 98% of those workers are still employed with the firm. Bank of America, also, is participating in the program. But meeting goals may be complicated by long-simmering management problems at college district headquarters.
