* Tulane at a glance: Scelfo takes over for Tommy Bowden, who has left to coach Clemson. Bowden was 18-4 in two seasons. Shaun King, the nation’s top passer, leads one of the two undefeated I-A teams.

* Georgia at a glance: The Bulldogs are led by Quincy Carter, the top Southeastern freshman. Carter originally signed with Georgia Tech, but dropped out of football for two years after being drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He signed with Georgia this year and threw for 2,484 yards.

* Mississippi at a glance: Cutcliffe, the offensive coordinator at Tennessee, takes over for departed coach Tommy Tuberville.

* Texas Tech at a glance: The Red Raiders are excited to return to a bowl after a one-year absence. Tech voluntarily withdrew from postseason consideration last year as part of a self-imposed punishment for NCAA rules violations. Sanctions handed down earlier this year did not include postseason bans.
