Council May Allow Sidewalk Sales
Responding to complaints, the City Council today will consider allowing merchants to hold sidewalk sales.
Under the city’s code, only shopping center managers are allowed to arrange sidewalk sales for their merchants, up to four times a year. Individual merchants have sought the ability to organize their own sidewalk sales.
If approved, merchants could hold as many as eight sidewalk sales or promotional events a year; each one could last no more than three consecutive days. A permit to hold the sales could cost $15.
The council also is considering stricter regulations for home businesses.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. There will be a 6 p.m. study session on the code changes. Information: (714) 993-8231.
