Cheerleading Team Wins National Title
The Los Alamitos High School Varsity Song Team returned from Orlando, Fla., this week with a national dance competition title.
Team members won the 1998 United Dance Assn. National High School Competition, placing first overall in the nation.
Fourteen girls are on the team, which cheers on the football team. They are Kairi Allen, Summer Allison, Brianna Bailey, Amie Fasnacht, Melissa Hanning, Emily Kastner, Kami Major, Emily Neighbors, Mari Payton, Hedy Rowe, Julie Welch, Lindsay Wilkenson, Carin Wu and Kristen Yee. Jennifer Purcell and Karl Mundt coach the team.
This is the first time the team has won the national title.
The girls competed against 100 schools. The competition will be televised next month on ESPN.
