A Pat Hand for Robinson

King Coach Larry Robinson said his team will not try to make any changes before the NHL season resumes Feb. 25.

“We’ve shown that we know what we are capable of doing, so it’s just a question of picking it up where we left off,” said Robinson, whose team is 26-20-9, two victories shy of its total of last season. “All of the other teams are going to be in the same position as we are. It’s not like we’re the only ones taking a break and nobody else is . . . there’s no reason for us to change our style of play.”

King center Jozef Stumpel tried to play Saturday against the Mighty Ducks but after skating in pregame warmups he was too weak because of flu and missed his first game of the season.

Stumpel then left for Japan to join his Slovakian Olympic teammates competing in the hockey qualifying round.

King left wing Luc Robitaille suffered a groin injury and left the game in the second period. Defenseman Garry Galley was hit by a slap shot and suffered a bruise on his left kneecap in the third. Both players are expected to be back at full strength by the time the Kings return to restricted practice Feb. 15.

Two other players expected to be back from injury or illness are Craig Johnson and Philippe Boucher. Johnson, who will get married during the Olympic break, has missed the last three games because of an abdominal contusion. Boucher, who has been on injured reserve since Jan. 29, has a rare thyroid condition and may be able to start practicing with the team again.

Glen Murray’s penalty shot in the third period, which was stopped by Guy Hebert, was the Kings’ first since Feb. 26 when Kevin Stevens was stopped by Winnipeg’s Nikolai Khabibulin. The last penalty shot converted by the Kings was March 21, 1995, when Dan Quinn beat the Ducks’ Mikhail Shtalenkov.
