Then, watch Chachi finally win over Joanie on a classic episode of “Happy Days”. Saturday
Head to the Los Angeles Public Library for “Sweets for the Sweet--The Romance of Candy.” This program, sponsored by the Culinary Historians of Southern California, includes a lecture by Carole Bloom, a chef and author of “All There Is to Know About Chocolate.” Other speakers include Gary Guittard, who will reminisce about Guittard Chocolates, which began in 1868; Carol Klingenberg, of CJ’s Gourmet Emporium, who will talk about novelty candies; and others. Although the zoo might not sound like the most romantic setting, the Los Angeles Zoo’s L.A. Zoo Lovin’ program of Valentine’s activities makes the trip worthwhile. All day Friday and Saturday, the zoo hosts face painting, card-making and music for kids, and hourly docent tours where human families can learn about animal families. Free with paid museum admission. Adults, $8.25; children 2 to 12, $3.25.
The adults-only “Prime Mate Party” starts at 3 p.m. with a tram tour of the zoo, a reception and a slide show featuring an intimate look at animal mating behavior. $15 per person, or $25 per couple for zoo members; $20 per person or $30 per couple for nonmembers. For a special evening, you may want to listen to the sweet sounds of an all-Gershwin program by Bolcom & Morris at Glendale’s Alex Theatre. Pianist William Bolcom and his wife, mezzo-soprano Joan Morris are known for their interpretations of American popular songs, which they have performed in some of the most renowned venues in the world. 8 p.m. 216 N. If you are flying solo for Valentine’s Day, you may want to stop by the Meeting Pointe’s St. Valentine’s Day Bash. The Meeting Pointe is one of the only singles clubs in the area that has its own facility and restaurant. The evening includes dancing to a live band, a piano lounge, and more. $10 in advance; $20 at the door. Sunday
Even though Valentine’s Day is over, the romance doesn’t have to stop. The Jazz Bakery is hosting “Sing! Sing! Sing!--Sinatra!!” at 4 p.m. Pay tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes by singing along to the songs that made him famous. $12.
