Guard Confronts Theft Suspect and Is Stabbed
GARDEN GROVE — A store security guard remained in fair condition Wednesday after being stabbed in the stomach by a suspected shoplifter, police said.
Security guard Brian Sorenson, 25, told police he saw a couple steal clothing from the Mervyn’s store on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Sorenson said they left the store with the merchandise--valued at $150--before he stopped them outside, police said.
When he escorted them back to the store, the male suspect stabbed Sorenson once in the stomach, said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Dennis Ellsworth.
Angel C. Orozco, 27, of Anaheim was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary. Police determined that Orozco was also wanted on an outstanding robbery warrant, Ellsworth said.
Orozco’s partner, Jacqueline Derivas, 32, of Orange, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both were booked into the Orange County Jail.
