Spotlight: Spanish Firm Buys Chatsworth Cigar Distributor
Tabacalera said it bought cigar distributor Max Rohr Importer Inc. of Chatsworth for $53 million, helping to give Spain’s state-controlled tobacco company about 25% of the U.S. market for premium cigars. Max Rohr is one of the largest U.S. importers of high-priced cigars, including Romeo y Julieta, Nording and Jose Martinez. Madrid-based Tabacalera is one of the oldest companies in the world and claims to have invented cigars as they are currently known.
