Alfred Terlizzi; Chairman of Capezio Dance Shoe Company
Alfred Terlizzi, 58, scion and chairman of Capezio, which makes ballet shoes. Terlizzi spent his entire career at the New Jersey-based Capezio/Ballet Makers, a 111-year-old company that was started by his great-uncle. Terlizzi began fitting shoes for Broadway and ballet dancers and rose to become president of the company by 1977. He was later named chairman of the board. In 1985, he also became president of Capezio/Ballet Makers Dance Foundation Inc., which supports dance companies and individuals who further the appreciation of dance in America. Terlizzi served on the boards of Regional Dance of America, Dance USA and the American College Dance Festival. Last year he was honored by Career Transition for Dancers and this year was chosen for the 16th annual Distinguished Service Award from the Dance Notation Bureau. On Sunday in Naples, Fla., of heart failure.
