Graber Resigns as Monroe Coach
Paul Graber has resigned after two seasons into his second stint as Monroe High boys’ basketball coach.
Graber, 40, previously coached Monroe for four years before resigning after the 1994-95 season. He guided the Vikings to the City Section 3-A Division championship game in 1993.
Monroe was 7-15 this season and did not qualify for the 4-A playoffs.
Wave of success: Pepperdine guard Gerald Brown, who averaged 23.5 points in victories over San Francisco and Santa Clara last weekend, has been chosen West Coast Conference co-player of the week.
Brown shared the award with Gonzaga forward Bakari Hendrix. Brown broke out of a shooting slump by making 18 of 32 field goals and all nine of his free throws last week.
Brown and Hendrix will square off Thursday night when Pepperdine plays at Gonzaga, which can clinch the WCC title with a victory.
SOCCER
Seeding meeting: Poly High, champion of the Valley Pac-8 Conference, and El Camino Real, champion of the Northwest Valley Conference, are expected to be highly seeded tonight for the City Section boys’ soccer playoffs.
Traditionally, four teams from each conference earn berths in the 32-team draw. This season, five Northwest Valley teams could qualify because Kennedy and San Fernando tied for fourth.
