Injury Postpones De La Hoya Fight

LAS VEGAS — A left wrist injury has forced a second postponement of Oscar De La Hoya’s mandatory WBC welterweight championship fight against Patrick Charpentier of France.
A new date was not announced for the fight, which had been rescheduled to March 14 in the Trump Taj Mahal at Atlantic City, N.J. It originally was postponed from Feb. 28 because of the injury De La Hoya sustained while sparring.
Promoter Bob Arum said the De La Hoya fight would be replaced by Vince Phillips’ IBF junior middleweight title bout against Alfonso Sanchez of Mexico. Keith Mullings’ WBC super welterweight title defense against Davide Ciarlante of Italy will remain on the Taj Mahal show.
Arum said De La Hoya’s injury, first thought to be a sprain, was diagnosed as a cartilage tear.
