In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 1--Irvine, seemingly on its way to another big victory, let it slip away.

The Anteaters won the first game, and were leading in the second, then fell apart in losing to 12th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 5-15, 15-10, 15-9, 15-3. It was a payback for the Gauchos, who lost to Irvine for the first time ever earlier this season.

The 14th-ranked Anteaters (8-3, 5-3) dominated the first game behind the play of Gabe Burt. They were up, 8-6, in the third game when the Gauchos (4-5, 3-5) took over.

Kevin Collins, who finished with 27 kills, and former Dana Hills standout Jeremy Darner, who had 16 kills, led the comeback.
