New School May Get Back-to-Basics Role
One of the district’s most innovative schools, made up almost entirely of portable buildings, may get a back-to-basics curriculum under a proposal to be considered today by the school board..
Santa Ana Unified School District board members will consider designating the all-portable elementary school on West Santa Ana Boulevard, which has yet to be named, as fundamental. Such fundamental schools traditionally offer instruction in English only, although trustees have indicated they may bend such rules.
A past district survey indicated that parents want more fundamental schools, and some school board members have asked for the same.
District staff members have said a fundamental curriculum would be easier to implement at a new school, said Deputy Supt. Joe Tafoya.
