Asia Trip
Re “Asia Trip Gets Council’s OK,” Feb. 18: High-level city officials are off on another all-expenses- paid junket to the exotic Far East--Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. Controller Rick Tuttle was audacious enough to ask the City Council to approve of this $469,775 junket. Supposedly, the justification for the trip is to develop business for the airport, harbor and Convention Center.
What is needed here is an after-junket audit. How much business was generated? Was the trip worth the expense? Have the officials on the junket filed after-trip reports on what was accomplished? How about an audit on junkets for the past 10 years?
