June Foray, the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel in the “Rocky and Bullwinkle” cartoons, brings to life Prokofiev’s classical music fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” in a special performance with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. Master storyteller Michael Katz will open the show with some tale-spinning.

Pianist Brad Mehldau, a veteran of saxophonist Joshua Redman’s combo, puts his classical training to good use when refashioning jazz standards in his own, deeply felt image. Mehldau, whose latest album is “Art of the Trio, Volume 1” on Warner Bros. Records, should display a particularly sensitive side playing at the Cicada Restaurant in the 1928 Art Deco Oviatt Building during the Chamber Music in Historic Sites concerts sponsored by the Da Camera Society.

Attention Coen-philes: Two of the filmmaking duo’s best films, “Miller’s Crossing” and “Fargo,” will share the screen at the New Beverly Revival House. “Miller’s Crossing,” the brothers’ 1990 film about Jazz Age gangsters, is something of a homage to Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler. Last year’s “Fargo,” a darkly comic farce about a botched kidnapping, for which Joel and Ethan picked up the best original screenplay Oscar, is pure Coen.
