My Favorite Weekend

Midnight Movies: On Fridays, I like to go to a midnight movie. I get through work at 11:30-11:45 p.m. and then I go up to Universal CityWalk or will go into Hollywood. I like all kinds of movies. Sometimes, people go to movies where they have to figure out the plot or the subplot. I’m not that smart! I can’t figure that stuff out. I just like to go and sit and have fun and grab a bag of popcorn.

One of the Guys: You meet a lot of good people going to those midnight movies. I remember one time when “Star Wars” came out, there was this huge line and I just sat down on the curb with a bunch of folks and we just laughed and joked and talked about sports. I like people to be comfortable with me as I am comfortable with them. I am one of the guys.

Fore!: You meet a lot of wonderful people and you find out a lot about people on a golf course. You find out if you can get along with someone, or if someone is a good sport or a cheater.

Sunday Services: I don’t get to go to church as much as I would like to because games usually start at 1 p.m. The Rev. Cecil Murray at the First AME Church understands perfectly when I’m not there. He says, “Jim is working--good.”

Hobbies: My hobby is my job. It consumes every bit of energy I have and that’s the way I like it. If you’re really going to be successful at something or try to be successful, you have to have a good work ethic and I think my athletic background has helped me develop that work ethic here.
