Mayor: No City Ads if Paper Isn’t ‘Nicer’

Miami’s besieged Mayor Xavier Suarez has threatened to pull city advertising from the Miami Herald unless the newspaper begins to treat him “a lot nicer.” In a voicemail message, Suarez said: “. . . I strongly suggest you tell . . . [Herald President] Joe Natoli that he better tell . . . [Publisher] David Lawrence to be a lot nicer to me, my people, my citizens and my city.” Suarez took office in November after ousting incumbent Joe Carollo.
