Conference to Address Parent-Coach Discord

Parents who are too competitive and coaches worried about injuries can all learn more about sports and youngsters at a free half-day conference Saturday at Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange.

St. Joseph Hospital, CHOC and the city of Orange are sponsoring the event, which is open to all county residents.

Doctors and child development specialists have volunteered to discuss making sports fun, healthy and less stressful for children.

Orange Councilman Mike Alvarez, who helped sponsor the conference, said he’s happy to see a panel on managing conflicts between parents and coaches. “We want to change that dynamic, to make sports a positive experience for children,” he said.

The conference will be in two sessions in the Wade Conference Center at CHOC, 455 S. Main St. in Orange. The first is from 8:30 a.m. to noon and the second from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
