Struck by Car, Stanton Girl, 17, Dies
STANTON — A 17-year-old Stanton girl died after an 18-year-old lost control of his car and hit her and another girl Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Tara Hawkinson was standing in front of a home at the Anaheim Mobile Home Estates on West Ball Road with two other 17-year-old girls who live at the park, Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Paddock said.
The 18-year-old backed out of a parking space next door about 2:30 p.m., but he lost control after he turned and started driving forward, Paddock said. He hit one of the girls, causing cuts and bruises, but pinned Hawkinson against a parked car, Paddock said.
Hawkinson, a student at Cypress High School, died at Columbia West Anaheim Medical Center, authorities said. The crash remains under investigation.
