Brian Quintana, a two-time Assembly candidate from northeast Los Angeles, was sentenced Friday to six months in jail for attacking another man with a brick.

Quintana, 31, was originally charged with two counts of sexual assault in the case, which stemmed from his encounter with a man he met outside a Silver Lake bar one night in October 1996. The man accused Quintana of sexually assaulting him on a house porch on Hyperion Avenue.

In a nonjury trial, a Superior Court judge acquitted Quintana of those charges but found him guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Meister.

The weapon charge was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor at sentencing. Judge Carlos Moreno placed Quintana on three years probation, with the condition that he serve 180 days in jail. Meister said Quintana may be eligible for work release.
