Yacht Club to Launch Annual Warmups
The Westlake Yacht Club begins its 29th sailing season Sunday with the annual midwinter warmups event.
The event begins at 12:30 p.m., weather and winds permitting, at Westlake Lake, which straddles the Ventura-Los Angeles County line.
The warmups will include the C-13, C-14.2 and Sabot A, B and C classes of sailboats, said Vice Commodore Richard O’Linn.
The yacht club also will host the same classes Feb. 15 during the Southern California Yachting Assn.’s Mid-Winter Regatta, billed as the largest event of its kind in North America.
Last year, almost 1,000 boats raced at venues from Morro Bay to Chula Vista, and participation in the 1998 version is expected to exceed that.
All members of affiliated SCYA clubs are invited to participate in the regatta, which features three races beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Registration runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and the entry fee is $5.
