Mahone Fights His Way Toward Filling Big Void
While Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis squabble over a proposed title-unification match and Mike Tyson tries to regain his boxing license, the rest of the world’s heavyweights continue to try advancing in the ranks.
Ed Mahone is one of those heavyweights.
Mahone, the North American Boxing Organization champion, defends his title against Daniel Netto of Argentina in the main event of tonight’s card at the Great Western Forum.
For Mahone (17-0-1, 17 knockouts), tonight’s fight, scheduled for 12 rounds, is his second defense since winning the championship Feb. 23.
Netto (25-12-1, 10 KOs) doesn’t just have an experience edge, but also a weight advantage.
In his last fight Netto, 37, weighed 254 pounds. Mahone weighed 223 in his last bout, a May first-round KO of Ernesto Moreno.
The card will also feature WBO bantamweight champion Jorge Eliecer Julio (38-1, 29 KOs) in a non-title fight against Lupe Rangel (15-8-1). Fights begin at 7:15.
