Gang Shooting Injures 2 Men in Van Nuys
VAN NUYS — An argument between rival gang members led to the shooting of two men, one of whom was seriously injured, police said.
The victims were standing on a sidewalk in the 14400 block of Valerio Street at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when two men confronted them.
“Words were exchanged regarding gang affiliations,” said Los Angeles Police Det. Jim Rahm. Then one or both of the men drew a “large-caliber handgun” and fired. One of the victims was hit in the thigh and buttocks; the other suffered more serious injuries in the chest and back.
The assailants ran away, according to Rahm.
The more seriously injured man was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center. His companion was treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills and released. Police said both victims are gang members.
The victims would not cooperate in the search for their attackers, police said.
