Vigilantes Finally Beat Heat in Second Game
Mission Viejo rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to beat host Chico, 8-7, Sunday night to end the Heat’s eight-game winning streak.
Alan Burke drove in three runs for the Vigilantes, including two with a double in the seventh.
The Heat pushed its winning streak to eight by beating the Vigilantes, 3-2, in an afternoon game also Sunday. The teams played twice Sunday because Friday’s game was rained out.
It was the first road victory in three tries for the Vigilantes and also the first time they beat Chico in six tries this season.
The teams conclude the series at 7 tonight.
A seventh-inning run was the difference as Chico defeated the Vigilantes in the earlier game Sunday.
Chico opened the scoring in the first inning on a two-run home run by Justin Mashore. Mission Viejo tied the score in the fourth as Phil Kennan drove in two runs with a single. But Alquentin Harley’s two-out RBI single in the seventh was the difference.
Hank Sprinkle, who relived Jose Salcedo in the sixth inning, picked up his first win for Chico. Joey Dawley got his league-leading fourth save. Mike Parisi was the loser (0-2).
