Monica Lewinsky
Monica Lewinsky has made a terrible mistake by dumping her attorney, William Ginsburg (“Lewinsky Drops Ginsburg, Hires Washington Lawyers,” June 3).
As idiotic as his methods may have seemed, her last best chance of avoiding prosecution was using him in the incompetent-counsel argument.

* “Starr Turns Bookish” (editorial, June 2) turned my blood cold. What Monica Lewinsky reads is absolutely none of Kenneth Starr’s (or anyone’s) business. And what she does or does not read proves nothing! I am furious that this man is allowed to continue his witch hunt.
If we have so much extra money that Starr can waste millions of dollars, why do we still have so many hungry and homeless Americans, why can’t drug addicts get treatment when they ask for it, why do our schoolchildren not have the books and materials they need to prepare for the future, and why is health care not available to so many?

* Bernard Lewinsky has a legitimate right, if not a duty, to speak out in defense of his daughter (May 29). What father isn’t going to be troubled with the circumstances that his daughter--Monica--finds herself embroiled in. Striking out at the independent counsel, however, is ineffectual.
His rage is better directed at the president. President Clinton vowed four months ago that he would present the facts about his relationship with the young lady. Why doesn’t Lewinsky encourage this president to step forward and spare Miss Lewinsky further troubles (not to mention legal costs that continue to rise)? What kind of man continues to let others take all the heat?

* I, for one, am not afraid of Starr. This entire affair has taken on a dog and pony show atmosphere--sorry Ken, it’s not good enough for a circus. I am sure that after the ordeal Monica Lewinsky has been through--and make no mistake, no matter how or if she manages to turn it into a book, or an acting career, it has to be an ordeal--she is ready to do anything to stop the threat of a conviction and the inquisition.
I cannot understand why we cannot stop this ridiculous man and end his stupid job.
