Sir David English; Chairman of London Newspaper Group
Sir David English, 67, chairman and editor-in-chief of Associated Newspapers, who was editor of the Daily Mail of London for more than 20 years. English, who joined Associated in 1969, became editor of the Daily Mail in 1971 and transformed the tabloid over the next two decades. In 1992 he was appointed overall editor of the group, whose other newspapers include the Mail on Sunday and London’s Evening Standard. Under his leadership, the Daily Mail became the self-assured voice of middle England, identifying a fertile new market between traditional tabloid territory and broadsheet newspapers.
