THE LADY IS A CHAMP
What enjoyment I received in reading Don Heckman’s interview with Lena Horne (“Lena,” May 31). Lena has always shown such great strength and courage in all that she has endured these past decades. She will always be a person that I admire and look up to as a role model.

I am Lena Horne’s No. 2 fan and have been so for over 50 years. I saw her on a calendar when I was a kid. (Her No. 1 fan as E.B. Smith, whose collection filled an apartment with everything she ever did.)
I am so glad that The Times is instrumental in making the new generation aware of this great lady. As she approaches her 81st birthday, we had better all hold onto our seats. I think she is gearing up to a bigger presence in the coming decade.
